Thank you to all of the photographers who joined me today during my web seminar (webinar as they say!) where I discussed charitable marketing and raising funds for Operation Smile. I spoke a little about our "Smile Cards" that we produce as our year-round fund raiser for the charity, and I just wanted to show an example of that.

For all my past and future clients out there, these notecards are a wonderful add-on to your order.....priced at only $15.00 for a pack of 10 cards, they feature a favorite image from your session and are blank on the inside. The perfect little thank you note for all those baby gifts!

We donate 100% of the money raised by these cards to Operation Smile. In the past 2.5 years, these little cards have raised over $10,000 for the charity! And as we have learned, it costs OpSmile $240 to repair a cleft lip during an international medical mission. So that translates to over 40 lives changed...

Along with Professional Photographers of America Charities, we join hundreds of other studios across the country each October for "Family Portrait Month." By combining all our efforts we have been able to collectively donate hundreds of thousands of dollars to this amazing organization.

I even got to witness and document an OpSmile medical mission in Honduras last year after our studio was named the largest contributor to Family Portrait Month in 2005 and 2006. This was a trip and experience of a lifetime, and we cannot wait to ramp up our efforts to benefit children around the world in need of a smile.

Today was such a sweet day for my good friend (and fellow photographer), Kim, as she and her husband Mike welcomed their new baby girl into the world. Being invited to witness and document such a day is an honor....and I thank you for trusting me to be there you guys!

Kim photographed the births of both of our kids, and I was there when her son Steel came into the world too. And I should say that I just barely made it this time! God-mother Jessica (who was charged with videotaping) and I rolled in exactly 25 minutes before this baby made her fast and furious entrance!

This precious girl's birth (she is so new that she is still unnamed.....Kim says they have been searching for the perfect girl's name for 2 years....and I swear I saw Mike surfing his iPhone for baby name sites today. LOL) was natural and beautiful. It was so neat to see the staff at Presby Dallas really embrace their birth plan and support Kim through a natural labor. You go girl!

It is such a treat to see so many newborn babies come through our studio.....holding and working with these little miracles is the BEST part of my job. I just love them all! But I have to say that if I could get REALLY picky and choose the best timing for a newborn shoot, it would have to be when the baby is 10 days old. Not quite awake to the world yet, before the pesky baby acne and any colic.....this time for a baby is pure magic. Little Alexis was a perfect example of the perfect time to come in....day 10. And check out Mommy......fabulous as well!

Celia's parents found us through a common bond that we have....we had our precious babies at the same midwife-run birthing center. The way that Matt and I brought our kids into the world is so dear to us, and its the same way that Celia's parents feel about her birth. So it was neat to reminisce a little today with this family about things that really matter to us.

Well, the last time we saw this peanut she was a tiny baby. And today, she is a CHATTER BOX 16 month old. This girl can seriously talk. In sentences! Celia also brought along her fan club.....which consists of four proud grandparents and uber-nanny Lisa. Such fun!

Having 4 children in under 5 years is an amazing feat in and of itself.....but to say that the whole crew is happy, sweet, kind, AND well-behaved? And did I mention that this momma looks absolutely fabulous?? This sweet family is so blessed to add another sister to the mix. Texas Vacation

Bo came all the way from Montana to visit his "Sassy" (his grandma Sally......OK I love that grandma name) for a whole 2 weeks! Bo's session is the start of Sassy's new tradition of having all the grandkids photographed at 4 years old. Love it!

We had tons of fun with this guy. He is ALL BOY. Outside the studio, Matt found a cool green lizard, which Bo found really exciting...as he only has 4 dogs and a horse to pal around with in Montana. (wow!)

Home-Bound

With their little baby boy ready to be born any time, Sarah and Ben were excited to squeek in for a maternity portrait session. But 2 days prior to our session she was landed on bedrest for high blood pressure. Now this is something that I know about all too well! A trip to the studio was out of the question....so I went out to them! With rest in between many shots (under the careful eye of dad-to-be, Ben, I might add), we had a wonderful time right in and around their home.

There is so much that I love about these guys: their sweet family has been with us since we worked out of the small back room in our first home and it seems like we have evolved and grown right along with them. Beth and I had our first kiddos around the same time, so there was an instant connection when we met as she was still pregnant, discussing plans for Mr. Lleyton's birth announcement. Since then, this family has been through lots of highs....and a few lows....and we are so very thankful to have been able to capture so much a long the way.

Thanks, guys, for trusting us with your precious kids and their priceless portraits! You are why we LOVE what we do.

After a few rain outs, we are finally back to the park for the first time this spring! After shooting here regularly since 2000, we still have not found a place we like better. It has it all....great morning and midday light, a beautiful creek, bridges and stone work like crazy, climbing trees, roly polys, frogs, turtles and lady bugs for catching....and during the month of April one fabulous nearby house with dripping hot pink azaleas cascading onto the (public, thankfully) sidewalk. What else could we ever need???

After the MASSIVE storms that rolled in here on Thursday morning, we yet again needed to reschedule Miss Alexis' morning arboretum shoot. We headed out in the afternoon for a 3:30 session. What did we find? Sweet light, incredible flowers, a cutie-pie giggly 3 year old.....and.....NO CROWDS! Yippee!

Our arboretum shoot on Monday was a bit like that superbowl commercial a couple years ago.....you know the one about herding cats? One 3 year old, one 20 month old and two 17 month olds! Super active, super fun and too cute out there in the midst of the most beautiful place in Dallas. Grandma will be so happy!

For most babies, their sixth week is just not their shining moment. After a couple weeks of sleep-eat-sleep-eat perfection.....they morph into fuss-eat-fuss-sleep-baby acne-fuss mode for a couple weeks. Not so for this little guy. Not only did he sleep soundly for a good portion of our session, but he was a perfect angel for the remainder. What a doll!

Too cute. That is the ONLY way to describe these guys. Courtney is a sweet friend of mine who married this fabulous man on New Year's Day. The story before their meeting and falling in love is just too good.....while at a Bible study at Cafe Brazil, we all prayed for one of two things for Court,

"Lord, just give Courtney a wonderful man...or let her heart be OK with being single. PLEASE."

And not 1 week later, she found herself in the amazing company of this hottie BRAZILIAN man 24/7 (for the rest of her life!).

Ever since we first saw this precious big sister as a newborn, I have been in love with her name.....Edie.

Named after her grandmothers, Elizabeth Diane is her full name. Edie is just about the sweetest 2 year old we have ever seen, and a wonderful sis to her tiny baby brother Alex.

We love their awesome parents (of Snappy Salads fame)....and appreciate all they are doing to take a stand in how they run their business in a yummy, conscientious way.

Yesterday Cal celebrated his big t-w-o by doing some of his favorite things:

seeing the fish

Eating "gakwee" (which is Cal's all time favorite word, meaning anything sweet or bread-y. A typical sentence from our linguistic genius sounds like this "humma hoona dono gakwee peese?" (loosely translated to gimme the cupcake before I loose it! PLEASE)

Jumping on the best birthday present in the whole world:

And generally loving on his new best friend, Jet. (Jet is hyper Rosie's new brother. We got this sweet, mellow 4 month old lab mix a couple weeks ago. The goal is to have Jet help c-a-l-m down Rosie and keep her from bolting out the front door each time it's opened the way Huskies do. So far, it's been successful in some regards, but the puppy pee and poop on the carpet factor is wearing on me.)

BTW, I love love his new T Shirt we found in Rosemary Beach. Check out all of Em Tanner's designs, I'd love to get a bunch for each kid for the summer.

We're BACK....

...from an amazing spring break at the beach. This was a kill-2-birds-at-1-time type of a trip. A really great time of family fun along with the added bonus of checking out our summer vacation/work spot of choice. I just have to say that if you have never been to Rosemary Beach, you just have to come meet us there in July. This place...the only word to describe it is idyllic. Park your car for the week, get on the bike (or in our case, tow your wagon loaded with 2 kids, 3 bags of beach toys, 4 towels, 1 very heavy camera bag, and a large plastic grocery sack of snacks) and away you go. The entire town consists of gorgeous (and I mean drop your chin on the ground nice) beach homes connected with wooden boardwalks, open grassy knolls for the kids to romp, fun shops, yummy eateries, one very amazing stretch of pristine beach.

While scoping the place out, we did find the most fabulous beach ever. Grayton Beach State Park is incredibly secluded, and perfect spot for our summer sunset beach sessions. It's just a short drive from Destin, Seaside, Watercolor, Alys Beach, Sandestin, Panama City Beach, and of course Rosemary Beach.

So twist our arms...we'll be back for 2 weeks in July, the 13-27th to be exact, and would love to photograph your family. Space is very very limited, so call Matt today to get penciled in. The same session fee and print prices apply as our regular Dallas sessions, but all beach sessions will include a complimentary photo beach bag from Gina Alexander. So cute!

And look what Matt captured!!! I am so thankful to have these images of my kids with me, the phantom mom who is always behind the camera. Thanks babe!

last peek for a while...

Here we have my last sneak peek for a while.....off to Florida tomorrow (well make that in about 7 hours) for a trip I'm busting at the seams about. We're using this spring break as a scouting mission of sorts. (at least a great tax right off!) Be on the lookout for pics of my babies on the beach...a foreshadowing of our first annual beach sessions! We're planning for 2 weeks in July near Destin and will be opening up a very limited number of sessions at Rosemary Beach. Stay tuned for full details!

In the meantime, feast your eyes on two month old L and 18 month old L....

...and here is baby J......can't tell you happy I am to have these posted. Looking at this sweet as pie girl, I'm sure no one could imagine that her mom and dad spent a total of 5 1/2 hours at our studio (in 2 days time) to complete our session. This little one really liked to nurse, and was a little on edge on our first go around. Mom and dad really hung in there, and I am so happy to say that they will have a hard time choosing from the many great images we got. Finally!

Matlida Jane Trunk Show

(especially Cal, who insisting on wearing one of the very girly dresses....which made his daddy cringe just a bit.) Then, yesterday, it was in the 70's and so beautiful that Ava and I played around with the new Matilda Jane clothes we got for the trunk show...

And as for today......well, they say 4-5 inches of snow! Craziness.

Miss C. has been long time in coming.....mom and dad have known each other since preschool! Can you imagine? We had such a wonderful shoot with this precious baby. And I mean precious. She just slept and slept and let us photograph her with her entire family, which included both grandmas and her great grandmother! What a treat to see such a close family.

...that the child of 2 people made for the water and the tropics could consider her first day skiing the "bestest" day of her life? Our trip to Jackson Hole last week with friends was wonderful in every way (well except getting there, but that's another story). Other than the sunny first day, it didn't stop dumping snow the entire trip. Great for skiing, not so great for snapping anything other than pics with the pocket camera!

We love these 2 little guys. Big sis has always won me over with her beautiful big blue saucer eyes. Yummy! Baby bro was a newborn last time we saw them. He is not much of a baby anymore, and they played with each other so nicely.

We are finally IN! And wow, does it feel great to have so much new space and so much new light to work with. Yesterday I had the pleasure of meeting precious baby A at her home.....along with her big sister Juicy. Who just so happens to be a sweet 18 month-old Jack Russell. Their parent's main goal was a portrait of the two girls, and after many takes......and out-takes.....I think we have it! (we all sighed relief in the room....we just knew the ONE had just been snapped!)

The craziness is over and we'd like to thank all of our amazing families we worked with last year for by far our best year yet! We are so blessed to have been chosen to document each one of you...your trust in us is not taken lightly. Matt and I hope your holidays were peaceful and filled with lots of fun moments with your kids!

We are so excited to be looking forward to an amazing year of change around here. The long (and I mean long) awaited new studio is actually ready and Matt and the girls have been busy hauling our business out of our home. I will have an actual home for the first time in.....well, ever! No more worrying about our kids crying too loud or the dog barking too much past the studio door. Yippee!

I am busy designing a new website....and a new logo....for a fresh look for our classic style. The whole shebang will be a breath of fresh air for us. Look for updates just as soon as I have them!

Oh my gosh look at this gorgeous couple! The way he looked at her made me want to almost melt...

Here is a family with 2 little red head beauties. We saw big sis last when she was just a peanut.

Little man is now a big brother! He was super sweet with his new baby bro....When we photographed big brother when he was a newborn, we got a shot of him all bundled up in daddy's hands in that deep newborn sleep. This time baby brother was WIDE awake. For so long! About the closest we got to sleep was this sweet half-yawn. No way was he missing this photo party!

These guys were such a trip! Baby sis with those bright eyes and 2 very hilarious siblings. Big sis said (repeatedly) "I was BORN to dance." So, after our work with the 3 of them, we let them loose to show us their moves. Stay tuned for a later post to see some pics of that!

Holy Holiday Card Mania!!!!

Each year Matt and I make a solemn vow to one another.....Let's not make this holiday season seem as crazy as last! For me, that would entail not staying up until 2am each morning designing holiday cards. Sooo....this season I had a grand plan. I would hire a graphic designer to make a bunch of templates that clients could choose from for their cards. Then I would plug and chug. Sounds reasonable, most other photographers I know employ this tactic.

First, I was just too type A and controlling to send out all the work to a graphic designer. So I made many of my own templates. That took weeks. Next, I just could not adhere to them! Clients would choose one, then when it was time to start plugging and chugging, well I just kept on going. And going. The result? What seems like 100's of custom designed, no 2 are alike, gorgeous holiday cards.

Sleepless or not, I just love them. Now, if I could only come up with a grander idea for our OWN card. (last year, they were back from the printer and in the mail on December 23. Nice!)

NEXT year, we will try that vow again....

Being from the mid west, when I think fall.....like October.....I think fall color. Still after living in Dallas for 8 years, you'd think that I'd remember each year that we get well, December color. So strange to me, but still an awesome surprise each year. This fab family with the tree-on-fire was shot on our December 1st park shoot...and the last park session of the year.

Yesterday we photographed these 3 guys at their amazing home and had a blast. We jumped on the trampoline, played with baby dolls, saw dad's incredible trophies and such....and oh yeah ate watermelon popcicles. Mom said on our way out......man this was like a playdate! Matt and I thought so too.

I just cannot get over that next week is Thanksgiving!!! In addition to seemingly shooting images of adorable kids nonstop, the whole house/studio thing is still creeping along and we are going through the drama of where to send Ava to kindergarten. Ahhh!! This is way more stress than kindergarten should be! Oh, and we'll have a total of 9 out of town guests saying at our home/studio/construction site starting on Sunday. For one week. While still working. Oh yeah and also the in-town fam will be here on Turkey day too. All that to say....thanks to our amazing families that have been waiting so patiently for your peeks from our sessions while I have been majorly preoccupied. (did I mention my kids had the flu too?). I'm sure you'll find them worth the wait! :)

I just got fed up a couple days ago! I could not stand seeing that new studio right next door....all finished, mind you-- except for some last minute touches like paint, electrical inspection, clean up, fixtures....you know. Minor things. That*take*for*ever*. Soooo...mid way through our Friday session with little miss thang who came all the way from Lubbock, I grabbed the camera and light meter and we stompped on over with broom and swiffer wet jet in tow just to make sure the place wasn't too dusty. Ahh.....my first images of our MUCH anticipated (and dreamed about) antique pine wood plank flooring and giant north facing window. Heaven! Loved it so much we braved the dust again on Saturday for little fun with brother and little sis. Soon we'll move in for GOOD. :)

It was a fun few days of lotsa repeat clients and a few new friends, too. Tis the season for photographing big families (can you say 5 shoots with 4 kids in 2 weeks!) and family members of the 4 legged variety. Matt has been working extra hard corralling all the kiddos as we ramp up our shooting into overdrive....his voice is completely gone....but when we get to photograph 2 superstar athlete dads in one day, well...Mr. Matt chalks one up for our team.

7 1/2 months and counting....

This fun 13 year old got very comfortable after his mom dragged him (hee hee) to his portrait session. We started in my current studio....

Then went amongst the dozen or so amigos who are still working on our new studio. (It's almost done! Isn't the brick awesome?).... These images are from the front porch.

Then we headed to a close by park to spread our wings.

A much loved brand new baby sister...

Every time we see this gorgeous family, I want to photograph them ALL day long. Little Sienna is the baby with mommy in the slide show images on our homepage. Look how big she is now!

We have seen these kiddos grow up for YEARS. Bis sis is already in the third grade.....we photographed her for the first time when she was in diapers.

2 wiggly, squirmy, happy brothers. You aren't too fast for me and especially Mr. Matt! :)

What to wear??

Wondering what would be the perfect outfit for your fall portraits? Well, normally I'd say anything that is casual, comfortable and appropriate for the weather. I also never suggest things like giant hair bows and peter pan collars. But this time of year, we always have folks that really want that summer-y feel to their portraits and dress in all white. I'd really like to show you little Savar from our shoot today. We have been photographing this little guy since he was in his mommy's tummy. Isn't he yummy? It was chilly today, and hey, it's fall...so his soft hoodie sweater and warm trousers were perfect. Mom and dad wore comfy shades of brown. Fabulous! So keep the white slip dresses for the little girls in the closet till spring (they'll thank you, too.....its cold out there in the morning in a summer dress and no shoes), and feel free to bust out some cozy sweaters, funky hats, and warm jackets...and take a peek at a slideshow from Savar's shoot for some more inspiration.

Yay! We were not rained out today! What gorgeous weather to be out in the park for the rest of the week too! Can't wait. Check out adorable Ava, at one year old. (I would normally not name a kid on the blog, but hey the dress gives it away!).

We have also been in the studio this week, check out the *four* kids together! This is a family we have photographed since big sister was a baby, and let me tell you they are spirited kids. Putting it mildly. Lots of fun and lots of noise. Well, mom had her misgivings about getting "everyone in one shot." I told her she came to the right place.....again of course.....as just this is our specialty.

We also saw one very superstar athlete and his adorable family, including new baby sis. Lots more shoots to come this week so stay tuned.

OK, well I did get a chance to sneak out to the Arboretum this week with my kids and Ava's little friend from preschool. We had the place to ourself it seemed....the end of a dark wet day. A little mud in the pumpkin patch never hurt anyone! And I couldn't resist my little beauty in this sweater on the first "chilly" morning of fall.

We had gorgeous weather this week......well except for the fog, drizzle and dark clouds on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. Hey wait! That's when we had TONS of park shoots scheduled! Jen's Fairy Tale Wedding

We're back! Hawaii was amazing, almost like a dream. We survived the travels with a 4 year year old and an 18 month old (although the latter still has jet lag and was wandering around my legs as I was working just 15 minutes ago after screaming MAMAAAA!! for 45 minutes in his crib. It's 1 am by the way), did not get too sun burned and came away with tons of awesome memories. Of course the highlight and the main reason for our trip was for Jen and Evan's beautiful wedding. (Jen is our amazing nanny/production assistant of 4 years) Check out some pics of the gorgeous couple and their perfect late afternoon ceremony. (and of course the adorable flower girl....who at 4 years old still need coaxing and hand holding by the photographer to make it down the aisle.) Tomorrow I'll share some pics of our fam and our days by the beach...

Family Portrait Month Is Here!

We are so honored to again focus our fund raising efforts this October to Operation Smile. Along with hundreds of other photography studios around the country, we will donate a portion of our October sales to Operation Smile. Also, we will continue to sell our Smile Cards (blank notecards in sets of 10 with a favorite image from the session printed on the front) with 100% of the purchase price going straight to Operation Smile. After the amazing experience last year of photographing an OpSmile medical mission to Honduras, I would sure love to again raise the most money in the country for this awesome cause! Operation Smile has always been very special to us, as my nephew Conner was born almost 8 years ago with a cleft lip. So make sure you order Smile Cards this month! I had such a nice birthday yesterday! Ava and her Mimi baked me a chocolate cake, my brother sent a deep dish Chicago pizza via FedEx, my mom sent me new pj's, Matt and I had a couples massage at a wonderful spa right near our home (who knew?), and I got 2 nice surprises from the kiddos we photographed at the park. The handsome boys with the doggie hand made me a card and the 2 little princesses in the black and white dresses brought me a pink cupcake from Celebrity Bakery. How sweet!!! (and how funny that Matt mentioned it was my birthday when he booked their appointments....)

Wow, I have been so behind! We have been frantic with lots of stuff....the (almost!) completion of the new studio and all the decisions involved with that, traveling to Michigan to a friend's wedding, shooting like crazy, keeping up with the 2 nutty kids and one very large puppy, organizing all the thousands of images from our charity Oilily shoot, and getting ready to head to Hawaii next week. Yippee! After our incredible turnout last Thursday for the Modern Luxury Dallas/Oilily/Angela Weedon Photography benefit for Children Medical Center...I finally have all the images processed and the slide show done! We had a blast with all these kids...whose parents donated $20 to Chidrens Medical Trust for the mini session. We all ate lots of yummy cookies and drank too much lemonade at the completely adorable Oilily store. Additional proceeds from the sale of portraits, holiday cards, and clothing from Oilily will go to Children's as well...

I'm beat. We had quite the weekend of amazing marathon shoots! And to top it all off....our construction zone office-studio-home is going gang busters. Today they painted/stained/and DUG THE POOL! Yes! So it's extra noisy around here and dust is really flying. We *hope* to be moved into the new digs in about 3 weeks or so. But then again we said that about 3 weeks ago. Here are some pics from our weekend sessions. One came all the way from Lubbock (we LOVE our Lubbock crowd!) and the other two are precious families we have seen grow before our eyes and cameras through the years. The large family is amazingly close, and sometimes when photographing them Matt and I feel like we are a part of their big clan. They are THAT warm to us. And we love seeing little P. and his cutie pie parents each year at this time.

Check out this little pumpkin! Operation Smile sent me the "after" pic of sweet Britany, a baby I met in Honduras while photographing their medical mission in March. She was just 9 months old then, and look at her now, a gorgeous SMILING one year old.

One that note, a HUGE thank you goes out to all of our clients who purchase "Smile Cards." THIS is the result of your generosity. Operation Smile uses only $240 to repair a cleft lip like Britany's (her cleft palate surgery will happen next year). Last year, our studio was able to donate $8500 to Operation Smile. How? Well, along with PPA Charities (Professional Photographers of America), we designate October as Family Portrait Month, and a portion from all sales from the month are donated to the charity. In addition to our year long sales of Smile Cards, it sure does add up!

So we are really looking forward to another amazing month of giving in October! And if you have already had your session and would still like to order Smile Cards (blank notecards with your favorite image from your session), please do! ALL money from the sale of the cards goes to help children like Britany.
